According to 2019 stats from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, nurses remain one of the most in-demand occupations in the state and will continue to be in demand in the coming years. From 2016 to 20126, the number of nursing jobs is projected to grow by 13%, thanks to about 1,180 new jobs annually.
And while new RN grads are valued here, it’s the highly educated and experienced nurses who are in the most demand. As a result, nursing students and professionals alike are rising to the occasion by earning graduate degrees like a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). In return, New Mexico employers are dishing out bigger salary offers than ever before.
In fact, according to a 2018 Advance Healthcare Network survey, DNP-educated nurse practitioners surveyed earned an average of 7% more than NPs whose highest degree was a master’s.
